About David W. Hough

David Hough’s dental advisory business began in San Jose, California, and was initially focused on patient growth. Many of his private practice start-up clients experienced new patient increases numbering in the hundreds.

He eventually added other management services, such as interviewing, hiring and appraisal of employees, financial interpolation, meeting enhancement, and improving internal and external communications.
As business expanded, Mr. Hough hired dentists, on sabbatical from clinical work, to assist in management support activities. Clients spread throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as to Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Despite this rapid growth, Mr. Hough still managed to personally visit and coordinate bi-weekly meetings with every single client. And, unique to this profession, he also offered a growth guarantee—if client revenues did not increase, there was no fee.

Looking to bring even more value to his clients, Mr. Hough added services such as helping clients add new associates by offering buy-in options, bringing specialists into general practices when requested, and adopting new clinical procedures. He also participated in partial ownership of several practices from start-up.
Today, David W. Hough is recognized as one of the dental industry’s leading management consultants.
Prior to dental consulting Mr. Hough served as sales manager for the Michael Thomas Group, a business development firm that assisted small businesses in increasing profitability. He also worked as marketing manager for West Coast Industrial Relations Association, a full service human resources consulting firm. Both were invaluable learning experiences that Mr. Hough still draws upon today.

He is a graduate of the Ohio University College of Communication, with a degree in public relations.
